We are here at the Sanctuary at Kiawah Island in South Carolina. Since arriving yesterday, we have been woken up at 3 in the morning by a fire alarm, I have had an allergic reaction to something and have been told to stay in the room the rest of the day by the on staff doctor. Tomorrow morning I have to leave my vacation and my wife to go to my mother’s funeral in Michigan. I am not looking forward to leaving my wife here while I travel. Everything here is beautiful. The people are friendly and very accommodating. Take a look at come of these quick photos we shot.

Today is my Dad’s birthday. Yesterday my Mom passed away. A very strange week this is shaping up to be. In these times I am reminded how brief life is. It causes us to pause and look for meaning. It forces us to ask questions. Questions like: What am I doing? What is my purpose? Am I being faithful? It also challenges me to focus on what is important. What is important? Since September 10, 2001, my Christian Conversion, I have come to understand that my value as a person is defined by God, since he created me. This is a comfort in this time.
